Grosser Rauchquarz

This very large smoky quartz has a beautiful shine, and its tip is lightly coated with chlorite. On the back, the point was in contact with the host rock. There it is now fully crystallized/grown out and has many small adularia crystals attached to it. The point stands nicely on its side. In any case, an impressive gift or decorative piece from the high Swiss Alps.

The Story of This Crystal

This crystal comes from a large, horizontal fissure in amphibolite rock. A melting ice field exposed this fissure. At first, we were able to recover a few large points as well as some smaller smoky quartz crystals. Two years later, we returned to this fissure. In the meantime, erosion, ice during the winter months, and water had slightly loosened the fissure rock and chlorite at the very back. This allowed us to recover a few more crystals, including this point. Check out our Instagram profile for insights into how we search for crystals like these.
