Smoky quartz on matrix

Smoky quartz group on matrix of very good quality, with one main point and many smaller points. In natural light the group really sparkles. We think the colour is one of the most beautiful smoky quartz shades: not really light, but not fully dark either, a transitional tone. The contrast between the pale amphibolite matrix and the dark smoky quartz is striking. The crystals show that they were able to grow undisturbed and calmly, which gave them their exceptional clarity. The matrix came away naturally together with the smoky quartz. The specimen did not have to be sawn or drilled out. It can be displayed in several ways and suits both decoration and a personal collection of high-alpine crystals.

The Story of This Crystal

This smoky quartz specimen comes from a cleft that had just eroded out of the glacier. The signs were anything but promising: only a tiny quartz band, a small opening in the rock and a bit of chlorite coming out of the stone. The fissure itself was very narrow, but it was enough to grow small, perfectly clear quartz crystals. A find that shows a second look is worth it, even when the signs seem modest.
