Limonite cluster

This limonite group really comes into its own in natural light. There, it almost takes on a faint golden shimmer. This group had detached from the ceiling of the crevice and then crystallized all around in the middle of the fissure. A beautiful decorative piece or gift from the Swiss Alps.

The Story of This Crystal

This crystal comes from a crevice in a large vertical quartz vein within the Bündnerschiefer (Bündner schist). Most of the crystals from this crevice were coated with this kind of iron layer, which gave them their "limonite coloring." Check out the linked video to see us crystal hunting at Piz Beverin.
