Clear rock crystal with chlorite and anatase

Rock crystal with beautiful clarity and a lively lustre. Some chlorite from the host rock has grown into the crystal, forming a fine greenish pattern inside. The tip is covered in tiny black anatase crystals, easy to spot on close inspection. Found in the scree at the foot of a glacier and in very good condition considering its journey.

The Story of This Crystal

At the foot of a glacier, in the scree between gneiss slabs and ice, the eye of the Strahler caught a glint. A bit of curiosity and a closer look revealed a crystal. It had eroded out of an alpine cleft (Kluft) long ago and was carried down the valley by the glacier. Despite that journey, it has stayed remarkably intact. A find that proves the search is sometimes most rewarding where you least expect it.
